Under the Umbrella is a play by Amy Ng, which explores tradition, trauma and triumph in the art of finding love, by telling the story of Wei, a young woman torn apart between pressure from her family to get married in native China, and her life abroad.
Her mother and grandmother attach Wei’s photography onto an umbrella and join the hundreds of parents at the Marriage Market, where the only successful transaction is a date for your child.
The brief asked for a contemporary approach in designing the poster, keeping in mind a young audience with interest in art and culture.
This translated into a clean layout, using duotone colour and portrait photography for a more personal, powerful visual impact.
